Box Score
WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore
Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) posted a goal and three assists, leading the No. 13 William Paterson men's soccer team (10-1-2) to a resounding 5-0 victory against College of Staten Island (3-10-1) Oct. 13 at Pioneer Soccer Park.
The Pioneers wasted no time getting the scoring started, as Valerio delivered a short pass from the right end line to a waiting
Ryan Miller (Colonia, N.J./Colonia), who beat CSI goalkeeper Christopher Morales for his second career goal and a 1-0 score in the third minute. For Valerio, it added to his season total of 10 assists that ranked first in the conference and eighth nationally.
Junior
Helder Andrade (Ocean Twp., N.J./Ocean Twp.) set-up Valerio for a blast from the top of the box in the 20th minute, and Valerio converted for a 2-0 edge. William Paterson tacked on a third score 41 seconds into the second half when Valerio played a ball up the seam to Andrade, who deftly finished to the keeper's left. The goal was the second of the year for Andrade, and pushed the Pioneers ahead 3-0 in the 46th minute. Valerio's soft chip over the defensive line in the 56th minute allowed Andrade to run on to the ball at the six-yard box and bury the shot for his second goal of the night.
A corner kick that bounced out wide during the 73rd minute was blasted to the opposite corner by freshman
Joe Maddolin (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) for his first career goal, finishing the WP scoring at 5-0.
Morales made 15 saves in goal for the Dolphins. Junior goalkeeper
Dan Peragallo (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) started between the posts for William Paterson and played the first 23:30. Freshman
Sam Gerais (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) made one save during the final 66:30 in goal for the Pioneers. WP outshot CSI 27-3 during the match, and owned a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
