WAYNE , N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (5-2) fell to New Jersey City (4-2), 3-0, Sept. 15 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both schools at Pioneer Soccer Park.
NJCU first struck in the 22nd minute when freshman midfielder Eduardo Tejad blasted a high shot from junior defender Leroy Sequeira, scoring his second career goal and first game-winner.
Junior midfielder Miguel Fontan and junior forward Cristhian Acuna each added unanswered goals, giving the Gothic Knights a final 3-0 shutout. Junior midfielder Edison Bilbao assisted both goals for NJCU.
Senior goalkeeper
David Casper (Franklin, N.J./Timothy Christian) made four saves for the Pioneers. Freshman keeper Andre Viola made three stops and recorded his third shutout of the year for the Gothic Knights.
The shutout marks the first time in school history that the Pioneers have remained scoreless against the Gothic Knights on home soil since first meeting in 1959.
The Pioneers will play at rival No. 25 Montclair State Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. before hosting No. 16 Richard Stockton Saturday, Sept. 22, at 5:00 p.m.
