GLASSBORO , N.J. – The William Paterson softball team (16-6, 3-1 NJAC) saw its winning streak come to an end at eight games, splitting a doubleheader at Rowan (14-8, 2-2 NJAC), 9-3 and 0-13 (five innings), April 3.
Sophomore Ana Abourashed Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) had a pair of hits for the Pioneers in the opening game, including her fourth home run of the year. Freshman Christina Zippler (Blackwood, N.J./Washington Twp.) was 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored.
Junior Diana Schraer (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) improved to 10-1 on the season, allowing nine hits and three runs (two earned) in 6.2 innings or work. Freshman Danielle Ballard (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) registered the final out inside the circle.
In the nightcap, William Paterson mustered just two hits against the Profs. Ballard threw the first 3.0 innings, allowing five hits and five runs (two earned). Freshman Ashley McDonald (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) pitched the final 2.0 innings, surrendering nine hits and eight runs (seven earned).
The Pioneers received six votes (31st) in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 Poll.
William Paterson will host Ramapo Saturday, April 7, in a doubleheader. First pitch will be at 1:00 p.m.
