Pioneers Win at Drew, 12-4

Mike Guadango went 4-for-6 with four RBI, two runs scored and a pair of doubles.

MADISON, N.J. – Freshman Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) went 4-for-6 with four RBI, two runs scored and a pair of doubles to lead the William Paterson baseball team (13-8-2) to a 12-4 victory at Drew (8-16) April 17.

The Pioneers jumped out to a quick lead, and were ahead 10-0 by the middle of the third inning. Senior Jon Marzella (Cedar Knolls, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and junior Don Hays (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) each had three hits for WPU, while senior Rick Pignatello (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run.

Senior Mike Irwin (North Haledon, N.J./Manchester Regional) earned the victory (2-0), allowing one earned run, three hits and two walks while striking out five in 3.0 innings. Steve VandeVrede (Lincoln Park, N.J./Pequannock) surrendered three runs and three hits in 3.0 innings, while senior Christian Miranda (Bogota, N.J./Bergen Catholic) threw the final 3.0 innings, striking out six and allowing a pair of hits.

William Paterson will host Stevens Tech Wednesday, April 18, at 3:30 p.m.
