Pioneers Finish Phoenix Trip with 14-4 Victory

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The William Paterson baseball team (5-3-1) finished play at the Greater Phoenix (Ariz.) Invitational with a 14-4 victory against McDaniel (1-5) March 16.

Senior Rick Pignatello (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Classmate Don Reinertsen (Swartzwood, N.J./Kittatinny) was 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Freshman Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) and seniors Ted King (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor South) and Ryan Brand (Monroe, N.J./Marlboro) each added two hits for the Pioneers.

Sophomore Dan VandeVrede (Lincoln Park, N.J./Pequannock) pitched the complete game, striking out three while allowing six hits and three earned runs in 7.0 innings on the hill.

The Pioneers will play their home opener Tuesday, March 20, hosting Lebanon Valley at 3:00 p.m.
