WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team will host Rutgers-Newark in a semifinal game of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament Thursday, Feb. 22, at 7:00 p.m. at the WPU Rec Center.
The top-seeded Pioneers (21-4, 11-2 NJAC) won the NJAC's North Division and shared the overall regular-season crown with Kean (22-3, 11-2 NJAC). William Paterson defeated the Cougars 69-57 Jan. 27, and therefore own the tiebreaker, and with it, home-court advantage throughout the tournament.
William Paterson was 2-0 this season against North Division third seed Rutgers-Newark, including a 56-50 victory against the Scarlet Raiders Feb. 15 in Wayne. Rutgers-Newark (16-9, 8-5 NJAC) advanced to the semifinals thanks to a 51-50 victory at Richard Stockton in the first round Feb. 20.
Kean, the top seed in the South, will host The College of New Jersey in the other semifinal Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. The highest remaining seed will host the championship game Saturday, Feb. 24, at a time to be determined.
The first 200 William Paterson students with valid I.D. will be admitted to the Pioneers' game(s) for free, courtesy of the Student Government Association. All other William Paterson students with I.D., as well as senior citizens and children 12 and under, will be admitted for $2.00. The general admission ticket price is $5.00.
