NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (3-2) stormed back from an 11-point halftime deficit to secure a 60-53 victory at Mount St. Mary (4-1) Nov. 29.
Trailing 34-23 at the break, the Pioneers employed their press and half-court defense to force 11 second-half turnovers and a 9-for-31 (.290) shooting effort from the field by the Mountaineers. William Paterson scored 10 of its 37 second-half points off MSMC turnovers, and shot 48.0 (12-25) percent from the field and 81.8 (9-11) percent from the free-throw line to rally for the victory.
Junior Asia Johnson (Wildwood, N.J./Wildwood) scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the first half, and added game bests of 11 rebounds and five steals while making eight of 14 (.571) field goals. Senior Lori Custis (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) had 11 of her 13 points after halftime, including a crucial 5-for-5 effort from the free-throw line, while classmate Michelle Pellichero (Milltown, N.J./Bishop Ahr) added 11 tallies.
William Paterson will play at Lehman Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1:00 p.m.
