Pioneers Begin Season with 67-59 Victory

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (1-0) began its season with a 67-59 victory against Springfield (0-1) in the first round of the DeSales Tipoff Tournament Nov. 17.

Senior Michelle Pellichero (Milltown, N.J./Bishop Ahr) led all scorers with her 22 points, making eight of 13 field goals and five of nine three-pointers. Sophomore Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) added 16 points, five assists and three steals, while junior Asia Johnson (Wildwood, N.J./Wildwood) posted eight points and a team-best 10 rebounds.

The two teams combined for 44 personal fouls, 57 free throws attempted and 49 turnovers in the season opener for both schools.

William Paterson will play the host Bulldogs in the championship game of the DeSales Tipoff Tournament Sunday, Nov. 18, at 3:00 p.m.
