Pioneers Win 11th Straight, Defeat NJCU 51-46

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (13-2, 4-0 NJAC) stretched its winning streak to 11 games, rallying to defeat New Jersey City (3-9, 0-4 NJAC) 51-46 Jan. 10 in Jersey City.

The Pioneers trailed by as many as seven (32-39, 11:48) in the second half, but a 9-2 run evened the score at 41-41 with 8:00 remaining. William Paterson took a 45-44 lead on an Elisa Brown (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) jumper, but the Gothic Knights answered with a bucket of their own to regain the advantage (45-46, 3:51). Junior Michelle Pellichero's (Milltown, N.J./Bishop Ahr) three-pointer with 2:24 to play pushed the Pioneers ahead for good (48-46), and following Brown's block of a three-point attempt by NJCU with 37 second on the clock, senior Melissa Moore (East Orange, N.J./North Bergen) iced the game with a three-point play with six seconds remaining.

Pellichero led William Paterson with 15 points. Senior Luci Custis (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) had eight tallies and three assists, while Brown led the Pioneers with nine rebounds, adding six points. Moore scored seven points, and junior Lori Custis (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) and sophomore Stephanie Summers (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City) each had seven rebounds.

The Pioneers will host Ramapo Saturday, Jan. 13, at 1:00 p.m.
