MADISON, N.J. – A three-pointer by freshman
Elisa Brown (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) with six seconds remaining helped lift the William Paterson women's basketball team (8-2) to a 60-58 victory at FDU-Florham (1-7) Dec. 11.
The Pioneers trailed by as many as five points in the second half, and were behind 58-56 with one minute remaining in the contest. Brown nailed a three-pointer following a timeout, pushing William Paterson ahead 59-58, and she then came up with a steal with 0.6 second remaining. Junior
Michelle Pellichero (Milltown, N.J./Bishop Ahr) made one of two free throws, the result of a technical foul called on the Devils' bench, for the final two-part margin.
With the victory, the Pioneers extended their winning streak to six games. William Paterson was again aggressive on the boards, outrebounding FDU-Florham 51-39 and outscoring the Devils 21-9 in second-chance points.
Senior
Melissa Moore (East Orange, N.J./North Bergen) led the Pioneers with 16 points, adding eight rebounds. Pellichero had 13 tallies, and senior
Luci Custis (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) added 11 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Senior
Meghan Ludgate (Palermo, N.J./Ocean City) had another solid outing as a member of the starting lineup, posting nine points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes.
The Pioneers will finish their pre-holiday schedule Thursday, Dec. 14, at The College of Staten Island at 7:00 p.m.
