WPU Defeats Colby, 79-66

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (NOVEMBER 26, 2006) - Senior 5-7 guard Luci Custis (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) scored 22 points to lead the William Paterson women's basketball team (3-2) to a 79-66 victory against Colby (0-4) Nov. 26 in the second round of the Montclair State/William Paterson Classic at MSU's Panzer Gym.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the game's first seven minutes, and that lead never dipped below six tallies for the rest of the contest. WPU shot 45.6 (31-68) percent from the field, including a 7-for-16 (.438) effort from beyond the arc, and turned the ball over just 11 times against the Mules.

Custis was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting 22 points and five assists. Junior Lori Custis (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) added 16 tallies, while junior 5-4 guard Michelle Pellichero (Milltown, N.J./Bishop Ahr) had 13 points and a game-high seven assists. Freshman 5-7 guard Elisa Brown (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) contributed team bests of five rebounds and four steals for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers will return to action Wednesday, Nov. 29, at John Jay at 5:00 p.m
