Pioneers Fall to Christopher Newport in Opener

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD. (NOVEMBER 17, 2006) - The William Paterson women's basketball team (0-1) fell in its season opener, losing to Christopher Newport (1-0) 68-49 in the first round of the Seahawk Tipoff Classic Nov. 17 at St. Mary's (Md.).

Sophomore 5-11 forward Asia Johnson (Wildwood, N.J./Wildwood) began the season with a double-double, posting 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Pioneers. Junior 5-4 guard Michelle Pellichero (Milltown, N.J./Bishop Ahr) was the only other William Paterson player in double figures, scoring 14 points while collecting four steals.

The Pioneers will take on Arcadia in the consolation game of the Seahawk Tipoff Classic Saturday, Nov. 18, at 5:00 p.m.
