WAYNE, N.J. (OCTOBER 18, 2006) – The William Paterson men's soccer team (6-8-1, 2-5 NJAC) fell to The College of New Jersey (6-7-1, 3-4 NJAC) 3-1 Oct. 18 at the Pioneer Soccer Park.
The Lions scored first when Nima Rahimi was taken down in the box and Joe McGinley converted the resulting penalty kick in the 43rd minute.
The Pioneers were able to even the score less than 14 minutes into the second half when Carlos Moreira (Union City, N.J./Union City) led Kevin Dougherty (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) with a well-placed pass and Dougherty chipped it over the keeper's head. However, TCNJ would regain the lead in the 80th minute as Matt Luber struck a shot across the box to just inside the left post. Chris Heydt later put the match out of reach when he knocked in a rebound of a Matt Luber shot, making it a 3-1 score with 1:34 on the clock.
Junior David Casper (Franklin, N.J./Timothy Christian) made 12 saves in goal for the Pioneers.
