WAYNE, N.J. – Senior center fielder Eleni Lutas helped the William Paterson softball team notch a seven-game winning streak to earn the accolade as the March 19 William Paterson Pioneer of the Week.
Lutas currently rides an eight-game hitting streak in which she has hit .423 (11-for-26) with two doubles, two triples, four RBI, one walk, four stolen bases and has been by hit by pitch twice. The Pompton Plains, N.J., native helped set the table for softball's offense in the leadoff role, scoring eight of WP's 62 over the last eight games.
The senior tripled twice during an 8-3 win against Salve Regina Mar. 17, drove in two and reached base twice in a 7-6 walk-off win against Wooster Mar. 12 and reached base in all three trips to the plate as the Pioneers overwhelmed Centenary (N.J.), 18-1, Mar. 14.
Softball (11-5) plays its home opener when it hosts St. Joseph's - Long Island for a twin bill beginning at 3:00 p.m. Friday, Mar. 23.
