Assistant Coach Matthew Bijas began working with William Paterson football’s defensive backs in 2022.
The Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at San Pasqual (Calif.) High School (2020-22), he worked with the wide receivers, tight ends and defensive backs. Before that, he spent eight seasons at Red Bank Catholic High School as the Defensive Coverages Coordinator (2018-20), the JV Defensive and Special Teams Coordinator and Varsity Quality Control Coach (2016-20), and Freshman Coach (2012-14). He also worked with the varsity tight ends and defensive backs (2014-20). During his tenure, the Caseys won the 2014 and 2018 Non-Public III state titles and six division championships, and were ranked in the top 50 nationally during the 2018 campaign.
The Special Teams Coordinator and Wide Receivers/Tight Ends Coach for the New Jersey Pitbulls (NEAFL), he played at Saint Anselm College and Castleton University before two seasons of minor league football.
Bijas graduated summa cum laude from Castleton with a bachelor’s in communications, and he earned a master’s summa cum laude in special education at Northern Arizona University.
