William Paterson University Athletics

William Paterson alum John Whitehead coaches the Pioneer running backs in 2016 after mentoring the 2015 tight ends, and also recruits for the Pioneers in Bergen County.
 
Whitehead owns nearly three decades of coaching experience, most recently as offensive coordinator at Manhattan’s George Washington High School (2008-11). The head coach at Paramus Catholic High School (2004-07), he also held positions at Marist High School (1994-96), Jersey City State College (1990-93) and Brooklyn College (1986-90) before joining Paramus Catholic as the defensive coordinator (1997-2003). Whitehead was named the 2007 National Football Foundation Coach of the Year, and he helped lead his team to state titles in 1994 and 1997.
 
Whitehead earned a bachelor’s in history at WP in 1981, and master’s degrees at Saint Peter’s College in 2001 (teaching) and 2008 (educational administration and supervision).
