Women’s Soccer Bested by St. Joseph’s Long Island

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (1-2) dropped a 2-1 decision against St. Joseph's Long Island (2-2) Sept. 8 during the Pioneers' home opener.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP got on the board in the 10th minute when junior forward/midfielder Janie Henderson (Stanhope, N.J./Hopatcong) played a ball from midfield to the right endline. Junior midfielder Emilia Innocent's cross was finished by junior back Sophia Veloso (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) at the far post.
  • The Golden Eagles countered in the 26th minute and took the lead with another goal in the 52nd minute.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore Alessandra Socio (North Brunswick, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) collected one save in goal for the Pioneers.
  • Veloso's goal was her first as a Pioneer.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson travels to Abington, Pa., to take on Penn State Abington on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1:00 p.m.
