Pioneers Drop Home Match to Stevens

WAYNE, N.J. – A late rally wasn't enough as the William Paterson men's soccer team (0-1) opened its 2026 campaign with a 2-1 home loss against Stevens (1-0) Sept. 1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Following a scoreless first half, the Ducks broke the deadlock with goals during the 54th and 68th minutes.
  • Pioneer freshman midfielder Jasper Robijn (Sommelsdijk, Netherlands/Rgo Middelharnis) dribbled along the end line and found senior midfielder Matty Escobar (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) in the box, who finished to make it a 2-1 game at the 85:23 mark.
  • WP threatened to get the equalizer during the closing moments, but Stevens was able to fend off the opportunities to preserve its one-goal advantage.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The match's start was delayed for two hours due to lightning in the area.
