Baseball Falls in NJAC Tournament Championship Series at No. 5/5 Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The sixth-seeded William Paterson baseball team's (17-24, 7-11 NJAC) New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament run came to a end in the championship series after dropping a pair of road games to top-seeded No. 5/5 Rowan (32-5, 15-3 NJAC) May 2. The Pioneers fell 18-6 in game one and 12-3 in game two.  

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the third, the Pioneers loaded the bases with one out when sophomore Alex Gomez (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) came up and hit an RBI single to shallow center to put WP ahead, 1-0. Senior Dylan Santos (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) then ripped a two-RBI double into center, extending the WP advantage to three (3-0).
  • Rowan responded in the bottom half of the frame with a pair of runs to trim the deficit to one (3-2).
  • The Profs tacked on five runs in the third to grab a 7-3 lead.
  • Senior Jordan Brown (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) led off the fourth for the Pioneers with a walk and came around to score on an RBI double to left by Gomez.
  • Rowan countered with a run in the bottom of the fourth before adding three runs in the fifth to go ahead by seven (11-4).
  • The Pioneers opened the sixth with three consecutive singles to load the bases and a run crossed on a groundout to the right side by freshman Matt Caruso (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic County Technical).
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Rowan plated a pair of runs to make it an eight-run game (13-5).
  • Junior Devin Daproza (Englewood, N.J./Leonia) was hit by a pitch to lead off the eighth inning and later came around to score on an RBI single through the left side by junior Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge).
  • Rowan scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth, pushing the lead to 12 (18-6).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Gomez batted 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
  • Santos went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
  • Senior Angel Colon (Hawthorne, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional) and junior Stephen Kubis (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) each recorded two hits and a run scored.
  • Brown drew two walks and crossed home twice.

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Rowan jumped out to an early lead (6-0) after scoring three runs in each of the first two frames.
  • In the fourth, Kubis drew a base on balls and came around to score on a two-out RBI double into the left center gap to make it a five-run game (6-1).
  • The Profs added a pair of runs in the fifth and the sixth innings to extend the lead to nine (10-1).
  • WP loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, setting up junior Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) for a two-RBI single up the middle.
  • Rowan plated two runs in the eighth to push their lead to 9 (12-3).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Santos finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Kobylakiewicz recorded a hit and two RBI.
