WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (15-22, 7-11 NJAC) was defeated in both ends of a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader by No. 5 Rowan (29-5, 15-3 NJAC) April 26 at Jeff Albies Field on senior day. The Profs claimed a 1-0 victory in game one before earning an 8-6 win in 10 innings during the series finale.
After the doubleheader, the Pioneers honored their 12 seniors –

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Profs plated the lone run of the game in the fifth inning after a leadoff single, back-to-back successful sacrifice bunts and a base hit through the right side.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Junior Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) batted 2-for-4.
- Senior Julian Salinas (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts.
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers loaded the bases with one out in the first inning before a sacrifice fly to center by junior Stephen Kubis (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) drove in the first run of the game. Senior Angel Colon (Hawthorne, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional) then knocked in a run with an RBI single to left, putting WP ahead, 2-0. Â
- In the second, junior Devin Daproza (Englewood, N.J./Leonia) drew a two-out walk and advanced to second on a single up the middle by classmate Avery Whitney (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough). A base hit through the right side by freshman Matt Caruso (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic County Technical) drove in Daproza to make it a three-run game (3-0) until back-to-back walks allowed another run to cross.
- Rowan plated a run in the third to trim the deficit to three (4-1) before scoring three in the fifth and two in the sixth to go ahead by two (6-4).
- WP loaded the bases in the sixth after singles by senior Christian Peluso (Bridgewater, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and Daproza, and a walk by Whitney. A fielder's choice allowed a run to cross to pull the Pioneers within one (6-5).
- Daproza doubled to lead off the eighth and advanced to third on a balk before coming around to score the game-tying run on a fielder's choice.
- Rowan belted a two-run homer over the fence in right in the 10th and claimed the 8-6 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Daproza went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a walk and three runs scored.
- Whitney finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Caruso drove in two runs and walked once during a one-hit outing.
- Sophomore Jayden Villalta (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) pitched 3.0 scoreless innings of relief.
