Baseball Powers Past Hartford, 13-9

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The William Paterson baseball team (6-3) powered its way past Hartford (4-3) for a 13-9 victory at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The game was halted due to weather conditions with WP leading by an 8-0 score on March 15, and was completed on March 16.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers opened up a 4-0 lead during the top of the first inning when junior first baseman Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) singled in one run, a wild pitch plated junior left fielder Stephen Kubis (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills), an error sent home Kobylakiewicz, and freshman right fielder Matt Caruso (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic County Technical) contributed an RBI-single.
  • WP added four more in the third thanks to base hits from senior second baseman Angel Colon (Hawthorne, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional) and senior center fielder Steven Peralta (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Technical), a sacrifice bunt by senior third baseman Jordan Brown (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway), a two-run Caruso base hit and a two-run double by senior shortstop Dylan Santos (Nutley, N.J./Nutley).
  • The Hawks got four runs back during the home half of the fourth, putting together a walk, double, two-run single, RBI-triple, base on balls, and sac fly.
  • Hartford cut the lead to 8-6 in the sixth thanks to a walk, error and pair of base hits.
  • William Paterson answered by crossing the plate five times during its next at-bat. Sophomore right fielder Jesse Bash (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) provided a one-out single, sophomore catcher Alex Gomez (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) and junior designated hitter Devin Daproza (Englewood, N.J./Leonia) drew walks, and a wild pitch scored one runner. Kubis singled in one run and Kobylakiewicz plated two with a double, followed by an error that pushed across the final run of the frame, 13-6.
  • A walk, single, walk, balk and double added three runs to the Hawks' total during the home half of the eighth.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Kobylakiewicz was 3-for-6 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored.
  • Santos drove in two runs with three hits, including a double. Kubis collected two hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Caruso posted three RBI.
  • Junior Jose Marte (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) pitched 2.0 innings and was charged with zero runs, one hit, and a strikeout. Junior Kevin Reiner (Maywood, N.J./Hackensack) tossed 1.1 innings and gave up four runs on five hits and a walk with two punchouts.
  • Freshman JT Pugliese (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) gave up two unearned runs, two hits and a pair of walks, striking out two in 2.1 innings of relief (1-0). Sophomore Gavin DeNardo (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two hits, three runs and a walk with four punchouts. Sophomore Corey Mulholland (Totowa, N.J./Wayne Hills) posted one strikeout with one hit allowed in 1.0 frame.
