No. RV/18 Women's Basketball Coasts to 74-38 Home Win Against Kean

WAYNE, N.J. – The No. RV/18 William Paterson women's basketball team (22-1, 16-0 NJAC) remained unbeaten in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action after cruising to a 74-38 win against Kean (2-18, 2-14 NJAC) Feb. 11 at the Sports and Recreation Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers went 8-for-16 (.500) from the field in the first quarter, jumping out to a 21-7 lead.
  • WP continued to build on its double-digit advantage and pushed the lead to 20 (34-14) with 1:02 on the clock in the second quarter following a three by senior Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South).
  • With 6:45 remaining in the third frame, Wells buried a midrange jumper to spark a 24-3 run that made it a 38-point game (64-26).
  • The Pioneers maintained their large lead the rest of the way, securing the 74-38 home win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The Pioneers earned their 16th NJAC victory, the most in program history since the 1997-98 team won 17.
  • Wells finished with a game-high 16 points and six steals.
  • Sophomore Kaelyn Gowdy (Fultondale, Ala./Minor) recorded a 13-point outing.
  • Junior Mattison Chiera (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) had 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
  • Senior Patty Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) shot 5-of-6 (.833) from the floor for 10 points to go with six boards.
  • Junior Jada Jacobs (Mount Laurel, N.J./Medford Tech) tallied seven points, eight assists, five rebounds and five steals.
  • Sophomore Kasey Slade (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) reeled in seven boards.
  • WP scored 35 points off 32 Kean turnovers.  
  • The Pioneers are ranked 18th in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Poll and received votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.

  • William Paterson will play host to Rutgers-Camden Wednesday, Feb. 14, for a 1:00 p.m. conference matchup.
