Volleyball Sweeps Past Host Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (11-6, 3-1 NJAC) swept its way to a 3-0 victory at Rutgers-Newark (6-7, 0-4 NJAC) Oct. 6.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers scored five of the match's first six points and later used a 5-0 run to help secure a 25-14 first-set win.
  • Tied at 5-5 in the second set, a 19-5 WP burst behind three kills from junior middle blocker Makayda Aldrich (Robbinsdale, Minn./Brooklyn Center) helped WP surge ahead (24-10), ending the set with a 25-11 victory.
  • William Paterson scored 10 of the final 11 points of the third set to secure the match, 25-15.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Aldrich paced the Pioneers with nine kills on 14 attempts and zero errors (.643), chipping in four service aces.
  • Senior outside hitter Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) had season bests of 16 digs and five aces, and classmate Leah Molnar (Loudoun, Va./Freedom) produced her first double-digit digs effort of the season with 10.
  • Freshman setter Sara Rogers (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek) dished 17 assists.
