Men's Basketball Topped at Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (6-10, 1-8 NJAC) fell, 75-65, at Rutgers-Camden (8-7, 3-6 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game Jan. 17.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP trailed by five (9-4) early in the first half before a jumper by sophomore Delani Hyde (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) sparked a 19-6 run that put the Pioneers in front, 23-15, with 8:03 on the clock.
  • The two sides traded baskets until Rutgers-Camden closed out the stanza with 10 unanswered points to take a one-point lead (32-31) into the half.
  • The Pioneers opened the second half on a 9-0 run to reclaim the lead (40-32).
  • The Scarlet Raptors countered with a 23-2 run to go ahead by double-digits (55-42) with 10:56 remaining.
  • Sophomore Jack Gobel (Weehawken, N.J./Weehawken) scored six points within a one-minute span to pull the Pioneers within eight (62-54) with 7:06 left to play, but Rutgers-Camden held on for the 75-65 home win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Gobel went 6-of-12 (.500) from the field and 12-of-13 (.923) from the foul line for a team-best 24 points.
  • Hyde finished with eight points and four rebounds.
  • Freshman Ty'Shawn Pearson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) tallied six points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

  • William Paterson will host The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, Jan. 21, for a 7:30 p.m. conference game at the Sports and Recreation Center.
