No. RV/23 Women’s Basketball Remains Perfect in NJAC Play with 87-53 Triumph

WAYNE, N.J. – The No. RV/23 William Paterson women's basketball team (13-1, 7-0 NJAC) remained perfect in conference play with a resounding 87-53 home victory Jan. 10 against New Jersey City (5-8, 3-4 NJAC).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers jumped out to a 26-11 lead by the end of the first quarter after forcing 10 Gothic Knight turnovers during the game's first 10 minutes, and carried a 37-25 advantage into the locker room.
  • WP blew the game open with a 32-10 scoring margin during the third quarter, shooting 52.0 (13-25) percent from the field while limiting NJCU to a 4-for-15 (.267) effort, for a 69-35 edge at the end of the period.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior guard Jada Jacobs (Mount Laurel, N.J./Medford Tech) contributed 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
  • Junior guard Mattison Chiera (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) posted 17 tallies.
  • Graduate student Megan Sears (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) and sophomore guard/forward Leilani Pinder (South Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) collected 12 points and four boards apiece.
  • Senior forward Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 tallies, adding four rebounds and five assists.
  • WP shot 55.6 (10-18) percent from beyond the arc, and owned scoring advantages of 18-2 on the fast break, 48-16 in the paint and 28-10 off turnovers.
  • The Pioneers are off to their best start to conference play since beginning the 2006-07 campaign (8-0).
  • William Paterson is ranked 23rd in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Poll, and received votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.
