Women's Soccer Earns 2-1 Home Win Over Penn State Abington

WAYNE, N.J.  – The William Paterson women's soccer team (3-2-0) defeated Penn State Abington (1-3-0), 2-1, in a non-conference match at Pioneer Soccer Park Sept. 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the fourth minute, sophomore Janie Henderson (Stanhope, N.J./Hopatcong) headed a ball into the net off a corner from senior Erin Clark (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) to give WP an early 1-0 lead.
  • Less than five minutes into the second half, freshman Samantha Donovan (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) finished a cross from junior Christina Jimenez (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) to extend the advantage to 2-0.
  • The Nittany Lions got one back in the 59th minute, but WP's defense held firm to secure the 2-1 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Henderson scored her first goal of the year.
  • Clark earned her second assist of the season, while Jimenez earned her third.
  • Donovan posted her first goal as a Pioneer.
  • Senior goalkeeper Sarah Mantilla (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) recorded four saves.
