Volleyball Splits Home Tri-Match Against Washington (Md.) and Lynchburg

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (1-1) earned a 3-0 victory over Washington College (Md.) (0-2), before dropping a 3-2 decision to Lynchburg (1-0)  Aug. 29 at the Sports and Recreation Center.

MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers took control of the first set with a 4-0 burst that handed them a 10-6 advantage, and William Paterson went on to win 25-14.
  • The Pioneers dominated early with a commanding 15-5 advantage, and went on to win the second set, 25-10.
  • In the third set, WP maintained control down to the stretch, earning a 25-17 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) led WP with 13 kills to pair with eight digs.
  • Freshman Emeli Giesler (Milton, Ga./Milton) recorded seven kills and four blocks.
  • Junior Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished with 26 assists.
  • Sophomore Bella Demers (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) posted 19 digs.
MATCH TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP opened the first set with a 4-0 run and maintained their lead throughout, securing a 25-13 win.
  • Lynchburg won the second set, defeating the Pioneers, 25-12
  • The Pioneers came back in set three, clinching a 25-13 victory.
  • The Hornets jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the fourth set, and maintained momentum to claim a 25-15 win and force a fifth set.
  • Lynchburg seized control with a 12-6 surge and held firm to clinch the decisive set, 15-8.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Miller collected 10 kills and 15 digs.
  • She was named to the All-Tournament team.
  • Houpt dished out 24 assists and added six digs.
  • Demers notched 27 digs.

  • William Paterson will host Trine Saturday, Aug. 30, at 11:00 a.m. before facing off against Smith at 3:00 p.m.
