Women’s Soccer Starts Season with 3-0 Home Triumph

Clark's Brace Paces Pioneers

WAYNE, N.J. – Senior back Erin Clark (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) contributed a brace to lead the William Paterson women's soccer team (1-0) to a 3-0 season-opening home triumph against Centenary (0-1) Aug. 29.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Clark converted a deep free kick from the left wing, finding the opposite side of the goal for a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute.
  • After a flurry along the goal line following a Pioneer corner, junior back Kira Collum (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) fired from the right side, finding the back of the net off an assist from sophomore midfielder Emilia Innocenti (Edison, N.J./Edison) at the 49:51 mark.
  • Multiple hand balls resulted in a penalty kick awarded to WP, and Clark buried it with 1:29 remaining for the night's final goal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior Sarah Mantilla (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) collected three saves for her 12th career shutout.
  • Clark's brace accounted for her first two career goals, while Collum netted her first career strike.
  • Innocenti's assist was her first career point.

UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson will host Wilkes Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Pioneer Soccer Park at 7:00 p.m.
