Germanson Belts Two Homers as Baseball Cruises Past Mount Saint Vincent, 12-1

WAYNE, N.J. – Senior catcher Eliot Germanson (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia) belted his first two career home runs as the William Paterson baseball team (7-3) cruised past visiting Mount Saint Vincent (2-2), 12-1, March 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Dolphins took a 1-0 first-inning lead with a leadoff error, stolen base and single.
  • The Pioneers answered during their second at-bat with a two-out double by senior center fielder Braden Ramirez (Middlesex, N.J./Union Catholic) and a home run inside the left-field foul pole by Germanson, making it a 2-1 WP advantage.
  • Junior shortstop Angel Colon (Hawthorne, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional) opened the bottom of the third with a base hit to center, Ramirez had a ground-rule double to left and sophomore first baseman Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) lifted a sacrifice fly to right-center field, extending the margin to 3-1.
  • Germanson's solo shot to left center was followed by a hit by pitch for senior right fielder Austin Jack (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.), a stolen base and an RBI-single up the middle from sophomore second baseman Devin Daproza (Englewood, N.J./Leonia) for a 5-1 game after four innings.
  • WP added five more runs to its total during the home half of the fifth. Kobylakieiwicz led off with an infield single, junior third baseman Dylan Santos (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) doubled him in, and junior left fielder Jordan Brown (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) sent a run-scoring base hit to center field. Brown stole second and scored when Germanson singled to right, and after Jack and Colon were hit by pitches, Daproza's double plated two runners to push the lead to 10-1.
  • The Pioneers loaded the bases in the seventh, thanks to hit by pitches for Jack and Colon as well as a Thomas Papeo (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge) walk. Junior pinch hitter Matthew DiGirolamo (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) delivered a sac fly to right for William Paterson's 11th run.
  • Brown opened the eighth with an infield single, senior designated hitter Tyler Ruban (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) was hit by a pitch, and a wild pitch gave the Pioneers runners on second and third with zero outs. Freshman catcher Leo Spitaleri's (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) deep fly ball to center plated Brown and the Pioneers owned a 12-1 edge.
