WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (6-19, 2-16 NJAC) was defeated, 84-64, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game by Ramapo (19-6, 13-5 NJAC) Feb. 19 on senior night at the Sports and Recreation Center.
William Paterson honored its six seniors,
Shane Geene (Lafayette, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional),
Tim Gjonballa (Brooklyn, N.Y./Jackson Liberty),
David Martinez (Maywood, N.J./Hackensack),
Neftali Valentin (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack),
Andre Wells (Matawan, N.J./Matawan) and
Willie Woods (Englewood, N.J./Dwight Morrow) prior to the start of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A 3-pointer by Valentin with 13:36 remaining in the first half put the Pioneers ahead by seven (20-13). However, the Roadrunners went on a 30-13 run to go into halftime with a 10-point advantage (43-33).
- WP opened the second half on an 8-0 run to pull within two (43-41). Ramapo slowly began to build its lead back up and took an 18-point advantage (79-61) with 4:10 left to play after a 17-6 run.
- The Roadrunners maintained their double-digit lead and earned the 84-64 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Wells scored a team-high 22 points to go with seven rebounds and a team-best four assists.
- Valentin logged a 14-point outing with five rebounds, two assists, a pair of steals and a block.
- Gjonballa totaled 12 points, seven boards and two steals.
