Men's Basketball Extends Win Streak After 74-64 Home Win Against Brooklyn

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (4-0) remained undefeated after securing a 74-64 home victory over Brooklyn (0-5) Nov. 19 at the Sports and Recreation Center.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP owned a one-point edge (9-8) with 15:38 left to play in the opening half before outscoring the Bulldogs, 29-8, over the ensuing 13:31 of action to grab a 22-point advantage (38-16).
  • Brooklyn closed out the half with six unanswered points and began to chip into the double-digit deficit, making it a nine-point game (51-42) with 12:48 remaining in the game.
  • Behind a seven-point spurt from senior Ethan Paul (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North), the Pioneers built their lead back to double figures (60-47) with 9:50 left to play.
  • Brooklyn used a 15-7 run to make it a five-point game (67-62) with 3:03 on the clock, but WP held on for the 74-64 home win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The four-game win streak to begin the season is the longest for the program since the 2011-12 squad started 8-0.
  • Sophomore Jack Gobel (Weehawken, N.J./Weehawken) paced the Pioneers offensively, finishing with 21 points.
  • Sophomore Delani Hyde (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) totaled 14 points and a team-best eight boards.
  • Paul chipped in with 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.
  • Senior Cam Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./Bull City Prep) recorded nine points on 4-of-8 (.500) shooting with six boards.

  • William Paterson heads to Madison, N.J., Saturday, Nov. 22, for a 3:00 p.m. game at FDU-Florham.
