Stoner’s Hat Trick Lifts Field Hockey to 4-0 Senior Night Triumph Against Cedar Crest

WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore forward Ali Stoner's (Branchville, N.J./High Point) hat trick helped lift the William Paterson field hockey team (2-6) to a 4-0 Senior Night triumph against Cedar Crest (2-7) Oct. 1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Following a scoreless first half, the Pioneers found the back of the cage four times in less than 20 minutes, the first at the 34:13 mark when sophomore back Courtney DiPrenda's (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) pass to Stoner in the middle of the circle resulted in a 1-0 WP edge.
  • Stoner struck again less than four minutes later off a penalty corner as sophomore forward/midfielder Julia Dennehy (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) connected from the top of the circle to freshman midfielder Giuliana Pasquarella (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) on the right side, who sent a ball to Stoner near the goal.
  • The Pioneers made it a 3-0 margin in the 50th minute when junior forward Jada Jacobs (Mount Laurel, N.J./Medford Tech) assisted on a Pasquarella goal from in front of the cage.
  • Stoner completed the hat trick at the 52:32 mark, beating the goalie for an unassisted goal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore Grace Jenkins (Bloomsbury, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) recorded one save for the Pioneers, notching her second career shutout.
  • The hat trick was the first of Stoner's career, and gives her a team-leading six goals this season.
  • Pasquarella recorded her first career points with a goal and an assist, and Jacobs collected her first career point with an assist.
  • Prior to the game, WP celebrated Senior Night by honoring Noel DeBonta (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon), Carly Horn (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes), Allison Ochs (Carteret, N.J./Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School) and Kourtney Scipio (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield).
