Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falls to Rutgers-Camden

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (5-11, 1-8 NJAC) was defeated, 71-57, by Rutgers-Camden (6-9, 1-8 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game Jan. 18 at the Sports and Recreation Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers trailed by nine (15-6) with 14:13 on the clock after Rutgers-Camden opened the game by shooting 3-for-5 (.600) from deep.
  • A score from inside by senior Andre Wells (Matawan, N.J./Matawan) with 8:38 remaining in the half made it a seven-point game (22-15) before the Scarlet Raptors responded with a 12-2 run to extend the lead to 17 (34-17).
  • Rutgers-Camden owned a double-digit lead for most of the second half until an 11-2 WP run, capped by a 3-pointer from senior David Martinez (Maywood, N.J./Hackensack) at 6:56, trimmed the deficit to nine (59-50).
  • That would be as close as the Pioneers would get as the Scarlet Raptors iced the game at the foul line.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Wells went 5-for-7 (.714) from the field for 14 points while adding five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
  • Martinez tallied 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
  • Senior Neftali Valentin (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) recorded 13 points, two boards, two assists and two steals.
  • Freshman Delani Hyde (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) corralled a team-high nine boards to pair with four points.

UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson heads to Ewing, N.J., Wednesday, Jan. 22, for a 7:00 p.m. conference game at The College of New Jersey.
