Women’s Soccer Stumbles Against Visiting FDU-Florham, 3-1

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (1-2-1) suffered a 3-1 loss to visiting FDU-Florham (2-1) Sept. 7.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Following a scoreless first half, the two teams combined to score four goals during a 10-minute stretch in the second.
  • The Devils broke the scoreless deadlock, knocking a strike off the inside of the far-left post in the 59th minute.
  • The Pioneers responded three minutes later when graduate student Julia Fiorito (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) played a ball to sophomore Christina Jimenez (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional), who chipped the keeper across the goal mouth and into the right side netting for a 1-1 score at the 61:40 mark.
  • FDU-Florham regained the lead in the 67th minute, then tacked on an insurance goal 49 seconds later for the final 3-1 margin.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Sarah Mantilla (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) made nine stops for WP, and was helped by a pair of team saves by the Pioneer defenders.
  • The goal was the second career strike for Jimenez.
