Early Goals Lifts Women's Soccer to 1-0 Win Over St. Joseph's Long Island

WAYNE, N.J. – A goal in the ninth minute was the deciding factor as the William Paterson women's soccer team (4-3-3, 0-0-1 NJAC) secured a 1-0 home victory against St. Joseph's Long Island (6-3-1, 4-1-1 Skyline) Sept. 30 at Pioneer Soccer Park.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Graduate student Julia Fiorito (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) headed the ball into the back of the net in the ninth minute after senior Hailey Nelson (Elmer, N.J./A.P. Schalick) delivered a cross into the box off the feed from classmate Lauren Hutchison (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield).
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Fiorito scored her third goal of the season.
  • Nelson dished out her second assist of the year.
  • Hutchison recorded her first assist this season.
  • Junior Sarah Mantilla (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) made five saves en route to posting her fourth clean sheet.

  • William Paterson will head to Mahwah, N.J. Wednesday, Oct. 2, for a 3:00 p.m. game at Ramapo.
