Football Unable to Overcome Dickinson During Home Opener

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson football team (0-2) was unable to overcome visiting Dickinson (1-1) during the Pioneers' home opener Sept. 14, falling by a 24-0 score.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Red Devils connected on a 13-yard post route for a 7-0 edge midway through the first quarter.
  • A four-yard rush made it a 14-0 game 2:50 before halftime.
  • Dickinson pushed ahead by a 21-0 count after a 40-yard completion.
  • The Red Devils finished the scoring with a 42-yard field goal with 9:09 remaining in the fourth.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Graduate student quarterback Connor Katz (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) went 14-for-23 for 126 yards, while freshman Nigel Jennings (Garfield, N.J./Eastside) completed four-of-six passes for 42 yards.
  • Junior running back Isaac Cherry (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) carried 12 times for 52 yards, adding two catches for 32 yards.
  • Senior wide receiver Nolan Epps (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) led the WP receivers with six receptions and 56 yards.
  • Junior defensive back James Nevels (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) collected eight tackles (seven solo), and junior defensive lineman Quamire Green (Brick, N.J./Donovan Catholic) added seven stops (six solo).
