Women’s Soccer Kicks Off Campaign with 4-0 Victory

Pioneers Win at Centenary Behind Nelson’s Brace

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (1-0) kicked off its 2024 season with a 4-0 victory at Centenary (0-1) Aug. 30.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior back Hailey Nelson (Elmer, N.J./A.P. Schalick) scored her first career goal when she converted a penalty kick in the 19th minute.
  • Freshman Janie Henderson (Stanhope, NJ/Hopatcong) found the back of the net, connecting on a Jordyn Nelson (Totowa, N.J./North Arlington) pass for her first goal and a 2-0 lead in the 47th minute.
  • Hailey Nelson (Elmer, N.J./A.P. Schalick) collected her second goal of the day, making it a 3-0 margin at the 56:02 mark.
  • Sophomore Christina Jimenez (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) converted an assist from freshman Michaela Kerr (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford), finishing the scoring in the 66th minute.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Sarah Mantilla (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) made three saves for her fourth career shutout.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson makes its home debut Sunday, Sept. 1, against Sarah Lawrence. Kickoff at Pioneer Soccer Park is at 12:00 p.m.
