Box Score 2 WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson softball team (0-18, 0-6 NJAC) was upended by No. 13 Rowan (21-6, 6-0 NJAC) in its twin bill at Rowan Softball Field. The Pioneers suffered a five-inning 16-0 loss in game one and fell 6-1 in game two.

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first, Rowan plated four runs on three hits and a fielding error.
- The Pioneers tried to cut the deficit in the second, when sophomore Kylie Bythrow (Deptford, N.J./Deptford) singled to right field and advanced on a single by junior Haley Weinberger (Williamstown, N.J./Hammonton). The Profs left the two on base.
- Four more hits in the second secured the Profs three more runs for a 7-0 advantage.
- Rowan extended their lead 12-0 in the third.
- With two outs in the fourth, graduate student Caitlin Monahan (Bloomingdale, N.J./Butler) singled to right field and took second on a walk by junior Lauren Hutchison (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield). A groundout would get the Profs out of the inning.
- Rowan pushed four runners across home plate on four hits, closing out the fourth inning with a 16-0 lead.
- Sophomore Lilah Guthy (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) got WP started in the fifth singling to center field. Senior Gianna Mulato (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) followed up with a single to center field to push Guthy into scoring position. With one out, Bythrow hit a ground ball to shortstop and a fielder's choice and interference ends the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Monahan, Mulato and Weinberger hit 1-for-2.
- Guthy and Bythrow finished 1-for-3.
- Guthy (0-8) pitched 1.1 innings, allowing four hits.
- Mulato relieved Guthy in the circle for 1.2 innings with five hits.
- Sophomore Kylie Anthony (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) tossed the last inning while allowing four hits.
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A single and an error gave Rowan a 1-0 advantage in the first.
- The Profs added an insurance run in the second with a double, fly out and a single. (2-0).
- Guthy recorded a hitless third inning for a quick three outs.
- In the fourth, Weinberger singled to left field and stole second with two outs. A fielding error by the pitcher gave Hutchison first and pushed Weinberger to third. Rowan held WP with a putout by third base.
- The Profs got on a base in the fifth with a fielding error and advanced a base on a single up the middle. With one out, a fielding error would load the bases. A fly ball to centerfield plated one Prof and the throw home from Bigos to catcher Dylan DaCunha (Avenel, N.J./Colonia) led the runner on second to try and take third. DaCunha threw the girl out at third, Hutchison with the tag, to close out the inning.
- Monahan got WP started in the sixth with a single up the middle. Junior Courtney Schwark (Port Ewen, N.Y./Kingston) pinch ran and advanced to third on two groundouts. Bigos collected the RBI with a single to the shortstop, cutting the deficit to two (3-1).
- The Profs extended their lead in the sixth, scoring three runs off five hits (6-1).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Bigos and Monahan finished 1-for-3. Bigos collected WP's RBI.
- Weinberger hit 2-for-3 and stole a base.
- Guthy, Mulato and Gaskill went 1-for-3. Gaskill's hit was the only Pioneer double.
- Schwark scored the Pioneer's lone run.
- Guthy (0-9) pitched 5.1 innings, posting a strikeout and allowing 10 hits.
- Mulato relived Guthy in the circle for 0.2 innings and allowed two hits.
- Monahan recorded her 100th career hit.
