Softball Drops Two Against No. 23 Ramapo

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson softball team (0-16, 0-4 NJAC) lost both games in their doubleheader against No. 23 Ramapo (15-3, 4-0 NJAC) on April 6 at Pioneer Softball Field. The Pioneers fell 2-0 in game one and 7-1 in game two.
 
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ramapo grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second with a fielding error and a double to left center.
  • The roadrunners extended the advantage to two in the fifth, scoring on a single, stolen base, and throwing error.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior Gianna Mulato (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) finished 2-for-3 with a double.
  • Sophomore Kylie Bythrow (Deptford, N.J./Deptford) hit 1-for-2.
  • Graduate student Caitlin Monahan (Bloomingdale, N.J./Butler) and sophomore Lilah Guthy (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) secured a hit.
  • Guthy started in the circle, tossing 1.1 innings with one hit and one run.
  • Mulato (0-6) pitched 5.2 innings, posting three strikeouts while allowing one hit and one run.
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ramapo scored two in the first with a single, double, wild pitch and another double.
  • In the bottom of the first inning, graduate student Jillian Bigos (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) singled through the left side. With two outs, Monahan reached on a fielding error, placing Bigos in scoring position. Guthy doubled to left center to plate Bigos and cut the deficit to one.
  • Guthy posted a hitless second inning with a looking strikeout and two groundouts.
  • The Roadrunners opened the third with a triple to right field and scored on a groundout to second (3-1).
  • Three hits and a walk in the seventh extended Ramapo's lead to 7-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Guthy finished 1-for-3 with a double for an RBI.
  • Bigos and Monahan went 1-for-3. Bigos scored the Pioneer's lone run.
  • Backo hit 1-for-2.
  • Mulato (0-7) pitched 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.
  • Guthy relieved, tossing 4.1 innings allowing one run, four hits and securing a strikeout.

  • William Paterson travels to Glassboro, N.J. tomorrow, April 7, for a NJAC matchup against No. 13 Rowan at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
