Former Pioneer Standout and National Player of the Year Jenkins to be Inducted into Small College Basketball Hall of Fame

WAYNE, N.J. – Former William Paterson University standout and national player of the year Horace Jenkins has been selected for 2024 induction into the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame.
 
The most decorated student-athlete in Pioneer history, Jenkins was the 2000-01 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) National Player of the Year, twice earning first-team NABC all-America and all-district honors (1999-2000, 2000-01). Also selected to the 1998-99 NCAA All-District Team, he was the 1998-99 and 1999-2000 ECAC Player of the Year, the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) and New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Year, and a first-team all-NJAC selection his final two seasons.
 
During just three seasons in Wayne (1998-2001) he amassed 1,940 career points, the top mark at WP. He also still ranks among the Pioneers' career leaders in field goals attempted (1,419, first), free throws made (498, first), free throws attempted (642, first), steals (263, first), steals/game (3.21, first), points/game (23.6, second), field goals made (599, second), three-point field goals made (183, second), three-point field goals attempted (525, second), free-throw percentage (.777, fourth), assists (315, fifth), games started (74, tied-seventh), assists/game (3.84, eighth) and rebounds (514, 10th).
 
Additionally, he remains the WP single-season leader in field goals attempted (568), three-point field goals attempted (220), free throws made (257), free throws attempted (312), steals (120), steals/game (3.87), points (841) and points/game (27.1) for totals he produced during his senior season.
 
Jenkins helped lead the Pioneers to a three-year record of 68-22 (.756), advancing to the 2000-01 NCAA Tournament national title game, the 1998-99 Final Four, the 1999-2000 Sweet Sixteen and the 1998-99 and 2000-01 NJAC Tournament titles.
 
Jenkins played professionally overseas as well as for several different organizations in the NBA Summer League before landing with the Detroit Pistons for the 2004-05 season.
