Women's Basketball Claims 53-48 Road NJAC Win at Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (4-3, 2-1 NJAC) captured a 53-48 road New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory against Stockton (4-4, 1-2 NJAC) Dec. 7.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • William Paterson trailed by seven (15-8) heading into the second quarter but carried a seven-point lead (27-20) into the half after outscoring the Ospreys, 19-5. In the second frame, WP shot 9-of-15 (.600) from the floor while limiting Stockton to just two made shots on 11 tries.
  • The Pioneers owned a nine-point advantage (38-29) at the start of the fourth quarter until Stockton opened the frame on a 14-5 run to even the score at 43-43 with 4:10 remaining.
  • Despite neither side having much success knocking down shots the rest of the way, the Pioneers got to the foul line and went 8-for-12 (.667) from the charity stripe to close out the game on a 10-5 run and earn the road win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore Mattison Chiera (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) scored a season-high 16 points on 6-of-12 (.500) shooting to pair with a career-high five steals.
  • Junior Patty Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) logged 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Senior Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) poured in 10 points with four boards and a team-best three assists.

  • William Paterson will welcome Rutgers-Newark to the Sports and Recreation Center Wednesday, Dec. 11, for a 5:30 p.m. conference game.
