Men’s Swimming and Diving Team Notches Fourth Consecutive Win Over Brooklyn College 116-86

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (8-1) bested Brooklyn College (6-3), 116-86, to achieve their fourth consecutive win on Dec. 7 at Wightman Pool.
 
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Freshman Derek Gutowski (Succasunna, N.J./Roxburry) led the Pioneers with first place finishes in the 100 back (1:00.59), the 200 IM (2:19.08), and the 1000 free (11:43.49).
  • Freshman Mario Pontidis (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) emerged victorious in the 50 free (23.02) and 100 free (50.76).
  • Sophomore Justin Melli (Erma, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) secured first place in the 100 fly (1:00:00).
  • WP won the 200 medley relay with efforts by Pontidis, Owen Kane (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), Shane Apito (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany), and Ricardo Ordinola (Lodi, N.J./Passaic County Tech), finishing with a time of 1:51.30.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Gutowski recorded personal bests in the 100 back (1:00.59) and the 200 IM (2:19.08).
  • Pontidis improved his personal record times in the 50 free (23.02) and the 100 free (50.76).
  • Freshman Ismael Lamar (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) shaved time off his 100 fly best (1:04.54).
  • Freshman Isaiah Pierre (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) posted personal bests in the 50 free (24.28) and the 100 free (55.25).
