Men's Swimming and Diving Cruises to Victory Over FDU-Florham, 129-66

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (9-1) achieved a commanding 129-66 win over FDU-Florham (2-3), marking their sixth straight victory.
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Sophomore Justin Melli (Erma, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) led the Pioneers with first-place finishes in the 100 fly (58.75), 200 free (1:52.79) and 500 free (5:14.42).
  • Senior Shane Apito (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) touched the wall first in the 200 IM (2:17.30).
  • Freshman Mario Pontidis (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) was victorious in the 100 breast (1:08.39).
  • WP won 200 medley, with efforts by freshman Derek Gutowski (Succasunna, N.J./Roxburry), sophomore Owen Kane (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), freshman Isaiah Pierre (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg), and sophomore Max Russell (Wharton, N.J./Jefferson Twp.), finishing with a time of 1:52.36.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Melli clocked in with a new personal best in the 100 fly (58.75).
  • Freshman Ashton Moses () surpassed his previous record in the 100 breast (01:19.47).
  • Gutowski set a new 1000 free personal best (11:36.40).
  • Russell shaved time off his 200 IM best (02:29.72).
  • Pierre exceeded his previous personal records in the 50 free (23.93) and 100 free (54.64).
  • Freshman Christian Scerbo (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) recorded personal bests in the 500 free (06:41.76) and 1000 free (13:51.18).
