Women's Basketball Topped by Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (1-1) was handed its first loss of the season after falling at Vassar (2-0), 74-59, on the final day of the Hochberg Family Tip-Off Tournament Nov. 9.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Vassar opened the game with 16 unanswered points before closing out the first quarter with a 17-point lead (23-6).
  • An 11-2 William Paterson run to start the second quarter pulled the Pioneers within eight (25-17). However, the Brewers extended their advantage back to double figures by outscoring WP, 14-8, over the final 6:15 of the half.
  • Vassar maintained its large advantage the rest of the way en route to securing the 74-59 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) paced the Pioneers offensively with a 17-point performance.
  • Sophomore Patty Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) logged 12 points and five rebounds.
  • Sophomore Mattison Chiera (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) tallied 10 points on 4-of-7 (.571) shooting.
  • Junior Jasmine Sullivan (Hillside, N.J./Hillside) reeled in a team-high six boards.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson will host Medgar Evers Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Sports and Recreation Center with tipoff slated for 8:00 p.m.
