Men's Swimming and Diving Bests Moravian at Home, 81-58

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (6-1) bested Moravian (0-2), 81-58, Nov. 8 at Wightman Pool.
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Sophomore Justin Melli (Erma, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) led the Pioneers with victories in the 100 fly (58.86) and 1000 free (11:03.56).
  • Freshman Mario Pontidis (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) triumphed in the 50 free (23.22).
  • Freshman Derek Gutowski (Succasunna, N.J./Roxburry) touched the wall first in the 200 IM (2:19.74).
  • WP won the 200 medley relay with efforts by Gutowski, sophomore Owen Kane (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), freshman Isaiah Pierre (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg), and sophomore Max Russell (Wharton, N.J./Jefferson Twp.).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman Ismael Lamar (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) posted a personal best in the 100 fly (1:04.54).
  • Pierre shaved time off his 50 free best (24.52).
  • Pontidis secured a personal record in the 50 free (23.22).
  • Freshman Christian Scerbo (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) posted a personal best in the 1000 free (15:11.45).
