Men's Swimming and Diving Secures Dominant 114-56 Victory Over Mount Saint Mary

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (5-1) triumphed with a decisive 114-56 win over Mount Saint Mary College (1-2) at Wightman Pool on Nov. 2.
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Sophomore Justin Melli (Erma, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) posted first-place finishes in the 1000 free (10:59.34) and 100 fly (59.00).
  • Senior Ricardo Ordinola (Lodi, N.J./Passaic County Tech) won the 200 free (2:02.62).
  • Freshman Mario Pontidis (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) touched the wall first in the 50 free (23.52) and 100 back (59.70).
  • Senior Shane Apito (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) triumphed in the 200 IM (2:17.26) and 100 free (54.51).
  • The Pioneers were victorious in the 200 medley relay with efforts from freshman Derek Gutowski (Succasunna, N.J./Roxburry), sophomore Owen Kane (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), freshman Isaiah Pierre (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) and sophomore Max Russell (Wharton, N.J./Jefferson Twp.), finishing with a time of 1:53.03.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Melli posted a personal best in the 100 fly (59.00).
  • Ordinola secured a personal record in the 200 free (2:02.62) and 100 fly (1:00.80).
  • Pontidis shaved time off his 50 free best (23.61) and 100 back best (59.70).

  • William Paterson hosts Moravian University on Friday, Nov. 8 for a 6:00 p.m. meet.
