Men's Basketball Falls to Montclair State

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (6-15, 1-13 NJAC) fell 90-75 to Montclair State (15-6, 10-4 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game Jan. 31 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers trailed by one (21-20) with 8:34 remaining in the first half before the Red Hawks went on a 11-2 run over a span of 3:14 to extend the advantage to double figures (32-22).
  • William Paterson immediately countered with a 9-3 run to trim the deficit to four (35-31) with 3:05 on the clock.
  • Montclair State carried a seven-point lead (42-35) into the break and pushed the advantage back to double digits with a 3-pointer to open the second half.
  • The Pioneers pulled within six (50-44) with 15:24 remaining in the game, but the Red Hawks went on a 15-4 run to build a lead that proved to be insurmountable as Montclair State went on to secure the 90-75 road victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) recorded a double-double after scoring 21 points on 9-of-18 (.500) shooting to pair with 10 rebounds.
  • Graduate student MJ Moncrieffe (Maplewood, N.J./Marist) logged a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
  • Junior Andre Wells (Matawan, N.J./Matawan) scored 10 points with four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.

  • William Paterson resumes action Saturday, Feb. 3, for a 3:00 p.m. NJAC game against The College of New Jersey.
