Men's Soccer Drop NJAC Road Tilt to Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (4-6, 0-2 NJAC) fell to Rutgers-Newark (3-4-3, 1-0-1 NJAC) on the road, 7-2, on Wednesday, September 27.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Scarlet Raiders led the Pioneers 5-0 into halftime.
  • A Rutgers-Newark yellow card in the 62nd minute, set up junior forward Diego Navas (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) for a penalty kick goal to cut the deficit to 5-1.
  • Within in the next minute, Navas found the back of the net again with a pass by junior midfielder Gianfranco Banca (Queens, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy).
  • Rutgers-Newark posted two more goals in the 72nd and 78th minute.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Navas went 2-2, posting WP's only two goals. He recorded his ninth goal of the season, a single season career-high.
  • Banca earned his second assist of the season.
  • Graduate student Thomas Hatch (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and freshman Max Snell (Laren, Netherlands/St. Vitus College H.S.) combined for 11 saves.
