Women’s Soccer Starts League Play with 2-1 Triumph at Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (2-2-3, 1-0 NJAC) opened conference play with a 2-1 triumph at Rutgers-Camden (4-4-1, 0-1 NJAC) Sept. 22.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman Christina Jimenez (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) put the Pioneers on the scoreboard with her first collegiate strike, tucking Brianna De La Cruz's (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) cross inside the left post at the 6:04 mark.
  • The Scarlet Raptors collected the equalizer in the 56th minute.
  • Two minutes later, senior Julia Fiorito (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) was open at the top of the box and fired high into the frame, pushing WP ahead by a 2-1 count 57:01 into the contest.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Mantilla (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) collected six saves for WP.
  • De La Cruz contributed her first point of the season with the assist, and Fiorito scored her third goal of the year.
