MAHWAH, N.J. – A Ramapo (10-15, 6-12 NJAC) 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining was the difference as the William Paterson men's basketball team (10-15, 4-14 NJAC) was edged 66-63 by the Roadrunners in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) road game on Feb. 15.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- William Paterson trailed by one (11-10) with 11:57 on the clock in the opening half before the Pioneers erupted for a 20-7 run that lasted over nine minutes. Junior Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) was responsible for eight of his team's 20 points during that stretch while five other Pioneers got involved on the scoring end.
- Ramapo continuously worked to chip into the deficit in the second half and pulled within three (32-29) with 17:06 remaining before William Paterson scored nine unanswered points with senior Adryan Lopez (Garfield, N.J./Lyndhurst) pouring in seven in 1:47 of action.
- The Roadrunners later responded with a 14-5 run that began with 12:22 on the clock to gain a 52-51 edge.
- The two sides began to trade baskets and with 3:02 remaining, Lopez knocked down a shot from deep to put the Pioneers ahead, 63-59. However, the Roadrunners evened the score at 63-63 and with seven seconds remaining buried a 3-pointer for what turned out to be the game-winning shot.
